Hello Friends!

My name is Liz Mandell (They, She) and I am a queer, neurodivergent, disabled, and polyamorous parent, doula, and lactation educator. I live in MA with my husband and wife, our two kids, two rescue pups, three kitties, and seven chickens. I love to crochet, knit, sing, pole dance, read, cook, make art, and do nerd stuff!

My Story, Hopes, & Dreams

I started my journey in birth work as a birth and postpartum doula in 2019. I then also became an apprentice homebirth midwife for a short time. I loved birth and postpartum work and I am passionate about it, but it has become unsustainable for me to be in it as a doula or midwife (the on-call life can be tough!). Being neurodivergent and disabled has had me take a huge step back to reassess how I can be in the birth world, without putting my mental and physical health on the line, and avoid burn out.

In my cocooning, I realized that there is a HUGE need for safe spaces for other people like me who are queer, gender non-conforming, non-monogamous, neuro-spicy, and disabled. I want to create real community and support for people like me. I am passionate about crafting super inclusive, sensory friendly, and accessible support groups and workshops on menstruation, lactation, menopause, parenting, and postpartum.

I also wanted to create a space for art and mutual aid. I needed a space to share my art and admire other people's. A space where like-minded people can come together to support each other in a myriad of ways.

Thus, Rainbow Roots Collective was born! I decided to call it a collective so it can morph and mold around whatever the community needs it to be. Like a tree, I want it to feel like a grounded, safe, and stable place but with always room to grow and adapt!

I hope to see you at future workshops and community gatherings. My hope is you will find a space in Rainbow Roots Collective you can be yourself, feel included, unmask, and feel connected to other humans like you.
